How to Take Care of Braces
Starting braces is an exciting time! It’s also a time to learn about how to properly take care of your new braces, so you can get the perfect smile you’ve dreamed of and ensure treatment time isn’t prolonged.
The first few days after getting braces you may experience some soreness in your mouth. This is completely normal! Soon your teeth will adjust and the discomfort will subside. During the first few days focus on eating soft foods.
While you’ll be back to your regular diet in no time, you will still need to be aware of foods to avoid so you don’t cause damage to your brackets and wires. Throughout treatment you’ll want to avoid chewy, crunchy, sticky and hard foods.
If you play sports, a protective mouthguard is always a good idea. This will protect any damage that could happen from contact during a game or practice. If you do have an accident, make sure to check your braces right away. Look for any brackets that are loose or if an appliance is damaged. If you notice anything wrong, give us a call and we’ll help you out!
